In the inception stage of any software project, designers and engineers grapple with user interface choices. The look and feel, colors, location of the navigation buttons and so on become a big effort. Using an industry standard where all these decisions have already been made saves time in many levels. First, developers and designers already know what to do. Second, customers know what they are getting. And last but not least, maintenance people know what they are maintaining.

When we started working on Chameleon, we looked around for Industry standards that made sense for the most common automation applications and we settled on the SEMI E95 specification. It is not a very complicated specification however it has enough niceties that make it a great choice for any automation project we can think of.
